Sunny Side Up

Dude, seriously, geek.

Bourne again

The Bourne Supremacy was pretty good. Caught the movie last Friday and it was money well spent. My only beef with the direction was the car chase scenes which, while it was dynamic, fast paced, and undoubtedly a great scene, probably had too many movements and was too long. The movie started practically with a chase scene and ended pretty much in the same way but much more intense and it gave me a bit of a headache. I'm a fan of chase scenes and one of the best ones was in Ronin, but when the director decided to go crazy with movements, angles, jumps, fast cuts, and the like, that's when my stomach decided to churn. Not so bad that it would've made me sick, but you could say that I was quite uncomfortable.

Overall, the whole movie was a thrilling ride and the cat and mouse premise between Bourne and his pursuers was very engaging. I've always hated movies where the main character was framed from the beginning and goes through the whole repetitive suffering periods throughout the entire movie only to be given a "sorry, my bad" in the last 15 minutes. Thankfully Bourne was much smarter than that and the entire issue of wrongful incrimination was fittingly taken care of.

The Olympics ended this morning. IOC President Jacques Rogge rightfully stopped short from saying it was the best games ever as Juan Antonio Samaranch always said at the end of every Olympics when he was president. True, you can't have a trouble free Olympics but the lack of attendance and poor ticket sales have to be the worst in the last 20 years. Major events played in front of half empty, partially completed stadiums, thousands of Athenians fled to avoid absurd price hikes all over the city, farcical judiciary at the boxing among others, all ultimately capped by the attack on Brazilian marathon runner who was leading, costing him the lead and left to collect bronze instead. I wonder if the Greek government thinks it's worth the $8 billion debt they incur for staging the games.

The closing ceremony though, was much better than the all out party they had in Sydney but I wonder if the "My big fat Greek wedding" theme was really necessary.
