Sunny Side Up

Dude, seriously, geek.

Downgrade

I went from a place where 512K DSL is the norm to one where I can still get a 2.4KB/s line.

Telkom has a dial up line that can be accessed from literally anywhere as long as you have a phone connection but the service is extremely unreliable. The odds of getting a 44000 bps connection is probably one in ten and mostly you'll be greeted with error messages at best which means it fails to connect and at worst, a 2400 bps line. Yep. I didn't realize it's still possible to get less than a 40KB/s dial up in a city (pop. 12 million roughly) that claims to be a metropolitan in the 21st century.

I know a place that serves free WiFi at moderate broadband speeds but that means a 30 - 45 minute car trip to a mall. On the other hand, free internet. Hmm … I could make a day out of it and it could work. Have a swim in the morning (there's a public swimming pool near the mall) cross the bridge to the mall when it opens, head upstairs to my friend's restaurant and surf. On the other hand, it could be an expensive day for free net access.
