Sunny Side Up

Dude, seriously, geek.

"Fine, you'll regret it!"

While it's been revised from 8.0 to 8.5 and 8.9 all within a day, the quake has been remeasured and it clocked 9.0 on the richter scale while death toll climbs pushing 14 thousand casualties. Interesting piece of info I found this afternoon about the quake from The Age newspaper. You'll need to register to read the whole article.

"The Indo-Australian plate is moving northwards at a speed of seven centimetres per year and it's inevitable that this accumulated energy on the plate collision zone will be released somehow but exactly when and in what amount it depends on very many factors," he said.

Yesterday's earthquake was caused by one of the plates which makes up the world's surface moving a matter of metres, explained Dr Roger Musson, a seismologist with the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh.

Dr Musson said the fault line running under the Indian Ocean was 1,200km long, 500km wide, was in three sections, and that it had moved just 15 metres.

"It happened because of the fact that the whole of the Indian-Australian plate is moving northwards."

Just earlier this year Australia was still pushing to gain entrance into the ASEAN organization or at least trying to join the free trade area. While things don't seem to be encouraging for the continental country, the continent itself seems to insist on joining its northern neighbors. Like the big bully that it is, it's practically saying, "If my country can't join because it's not in South East Asia, I'LL MOVE IT TO SOUTH EAST ASIA!!"
