Sunny Side Up

Dude, seriously, geek.

Nano Nano

I'm not talking about the hilarious Robin Williams' show Mork & Mindy and it's not about this multi-flavored candy either. I'm talking about iPods.

Apple updated their iPod line up this morning and it seems that they've taken the regular iPod, put it on an extreme diet and exercise program and came up with a really slim iPod they call the iPod nano. It looks exactly like a regular 20GB iPod except it's just really thin, about less than two slim CD cases thin ad weighs about the same. Much thinner than most phones, I think even over the ridiculously thin Motorola RAZR.

Color screen just like the regular iPods so it can show pictures, 2GB (500 songs) and 4GB (1000 songs), a battery that lasts 14 hours per full charge and it comes in white and black. You can't say Apple discriminate against the blacks now. In fact, the black iPod nano looks like the best looking iPod Apple's ever released. The whole faceplate is black including the click wheel. Yeah it uses a click wheel just like all the other iPods with a screen. It's a full blown iPod except it's not blown, it's compressed.

It's also a USB flash disk but unlike the shuffle, you'll need the USB cable to plug it in to your computer because again, it's a proper iPod.

So now you think Apple has way too many iPods. iPod shuffle, iPod nano, iPod mini, iPod, and iPod U2. Waitaminute, did I say iPod mini? Because Apple's gone and sent the minis on a run out. They're still selling them but those multicolor brushed aluminum cutesy iPods no longer have their own products page. That link is http://www.apple.com/ipodmini but it will take you to the AppleStore where you can still buy one at the regular price (Apple's not discounting them). The mini's also been removed from the iPod line-up suggesting that Apple won't be renewing stock when they've run out.

What was that about a phone? If you've been waiting for an Apple iPhone, keep waiting but if you're after an iTunes compatible mobile, Motorola's got a ROKR to sell ya. It's really just a white E398 with iTunes compatibility slapped on it. You can store 100 songs in it.

Speaking of iTunes, Apple also released iTunes 5. Haven't checked it out but it does sport a new polished look reminiscent of the new Unified Toolbar skin on Mac OS X 10.4.

Big day for Apple's iPod division today. Wonder what's coming out on Apple Expo Paris in about three weeks. Then again Apple cancelled the keynote so maybe there won't be anything big.

No Surain, there's no iTMS Austalia yet.
