Camino 1.0 beta 1

Camino 1.0b1 was released today featuring a cornucopia of changes from the last public release which was 0.8.4. The developers are confident enough to feature this beta release on the Camino website replacing the horribly outdated 0.8.4.

For anyone wanting a snappy, secure Mozilla browser with Mac OS X priority, look no further. Firefox is a decent browser but it's still behind Camino as a Mac OS X application in terms of visual interface and behavior. Some of Firefox 1.5's shortcomings however are shared with Camino because the two browsers share the same Mozilla code base. This is the reason why neither browsers have built in spell check yet among other things.

Windows users would be wise to ditch Microsoft's Internet Exploder for Firefox but Mac users should get behind Camino.

For anyone wishing to tap further into Camino, there's CamiTools, a set of 3rd party preference panels that provide easy access into Camino's extended options already available by typing about:config in the address bar. Themes, visual changes, and processor-optimized versions are also available.

Is it going to have the same cross-compatibility as Firefox though?
