Sunny Side Up

Dude, seriously, geek.

Busiest month in Apple's history

Ok so here are the new Apples that were announced today, mind you they're all aimed at the professional users.

PowerBooks
12" 1024x768 pixels $1,499
15" 1440 x 900 pixels $1,999
17" 1680x x1050 pixels $2,499

8x dual layer SuperDrive now comes standard across the range, 46% brighter screens and 22% longer battery life, 80GB in 12" & 15", 120GB in 17". No change in processors.

The 12" is now a much better proposition that it was yesterday with the superdrive built in and a larger hard drive but the maximum RAM limit remains at 1.25GB. The rest of the PowerBooks are clearly the "real" professional line having received much larger screen resolutions and an option to use 7200rpm hard drives. The price drop on both the top 2 models are much welcomed.

PowerMacs
1 x 2.0 GHz dual core G5 $1,999
1 x 2.3 GHz dual core G5 $2,499
2 x 2.7 GHz dual core G5 $3299
They support up to 4 30" Cinema Displays, 16GB RAM and 1TB HD

Much better machines at lower prices although the 2.7 is more expensive. Understandable given how much power they generate compared to its predecessor. A dual core processor can be considered 2 chips in one so having 2 dual core chips is nothing short of outstanding. The options allow you to add graphics card to suppport either up to eight 23" Cinema Displays or two 30" display.

Cinema Displays
23" High Def $1,299
30" High Def $2,499

Aperture $499
Post production photography software to manage and manipulate RAW images.

Looks like Apple is keeping the three model pro lineups, I guess they're not ready to drop one from each line yet. The PowerMacs are of amazing values, with the "Quad" PowerMac leading the way. Shame that the 12" PowerBook didn't really change but given that it is essentially the old optional upgrades being offered at the base price, you can't argue too much.

All in all a great set of updates for pro users.
