Sunny Side Up

Dude, seriously, geek.

One more thing?

More like a few more things actually. Turns out there's a slew of Apple updates today from San Jose.

iMac G5
1.9GHz 17" $1299
2.1GHz 20" $1799

Each model feature larger hard disk, 128MB ATi graphics card, dual layer SuperDrive, built in iSight, built in Airport Extreme and BlueTooth, Gigabit Ethernet, Mighty Mouse, PhotoBooth software, and a remote control that looks like an iPod shuffle. Available today.

iPod
30GB $299 30% thinner than current 20GB
60GB $399 10% thinner than current 20GB

Both models sport a 2.5" 320x240 screen, support MPEG4 and H.264. Design resembles iPod nano, available in black and white starting next week. This isn't exactly the iPod video that people have been waiting for but it plays video nonetheless. Apple calls it simply the iPod. The iPod U2 is no longer available.

iTunes 6.
Yes, Apple is rolling out iTunes 6 despite having released iTunes 5 just a month ago. 2000 music videos for sale at $1.99. You can gift songs, albums, music videos from iTunes 6 to anyone you like. In other words, you can buy, say, an album, and send it to whomever you like, as long as they have an internet connection of course.

Pixar short movies available for sale at $1.99 each. Episodes of ABC TV shows such as Desperate Housewives and Lost will also be available at $1.99 each. All videos are formatted for the new iPod, approcimately 20MB each at 320x240 pixels, protected by Fairplay, ie. no burning allowed but they're all playable on up to 5 computers and unlimited number of iPods.

PS.: New iMacs have no built in modem. Apple provides a separate $49 USB dial up modem.

Gah! Did you stay up to watch? You are way more hardcore than i am if you did.

I'm excited about the iMac G5 (less so about the new iPod because i'm not in the market for one for a while... and music videos don't really interest me). But i'm guessing that by the time I buy a new desktop (in 2-3 years) the iMac will be a very decent full media centre.

It's where i've been wanting computers to go for a while now.

One more thing, i was really interested how they just replaced the old iPod line with this new video one.

That was a big surprise i thought!

There was no livecast but if you read my previous post, you'll know what lengths I went through to get the updates.
